Helps For the Saints
“I supposed I knew my Bible,
Reading piecemeal, hit or miss,
Now a bit of John or Matthew,
Now a snatch of Genesis,
Certain chapters of Isaiah,
Certain Psalms (the twenty-third)
Twelfth of Romans, First of Proverbs--
Yes, I thought I knew the Word!
But I found that thorough reading
Was a different thing to do,
And the way was unfamiliar
When I read the Bible through.
You who like to play at Bible,
Dip and dabble, here and there,
Just before you kneel aweary,
And yawn through a hurried prayer;
You who treat the Crown of Writings
As you treat no other book--
Just a paragraph disjointed,
Just a crude impatient look--
Try a worthier procedure
Try a broad and steady view;
You will kneel in very rapture
When you read your Bible through!
-Amos R. Well
“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.” Matthew 5:13
As Christians, we should make it a priority to study the Word of God. We can only become more grounded in our faith and spiritually mature when we have a daily walk with Christ that involves study and prayer.
Don't be a Statistic!!
"Statistical research shows that less than 10% of professing Christians have ever read the entire Bible."---Bill Keller*
"Occasional Bible readers have declined from 79% of Americans in the 1980s to 59 percent, according to a recent Gallup Poll. Only 16% of Christians polled said they read the Bible daily."------Religion News Service**
"Only 2 of 10 people participating in a recent Gallup survey correctly identified who delivered the "Sermon On the Mount."-----Religion News Service**
